RED ROOSTA aka ANGRY BIRD

Hahaha that’s awesome man… Yep definitely looks like traction is an issue… What tyres are you running? Those new Nankang AR1 come in some good sizes for our cars and are relatively cheap compared to other semis…

Also by your video I’m guessing you don’t have an LSD? I think that’s something that a few of us are going to have to work out because stumbling across one on yahoo auctions like Gormsby did isn’t really likely… Maybe we can make one for another car work, I’ll definitely have a proper look at it all once I get mine running…

Sick driving and sick video bro, keep racing hard!

Sumitomo 175/50/13 tyres
Right now just equal length shafts I have to help me out when I touch the circuit.
Will be looking into LSD for the L700 gearbox. I do pray one @Mr_Gormsby suggested can work

Bro get on those nankang AR1s. They definitely make them in 185/something/13… Honestly I’ve raced for about 7 years and semi slicks are easily thr biggest time/grip gaining item…

Yes. Import them if you have to. It will be the best performance per dollar investment you could ever make.

Hmmm; what series are they. Lemme check if the local dealer can get em

Nangkand list an AR1 in 185/60R13 80V. They are an 80 tread wear, so moving towards the soft end for tires (https://nankangtyres.com.au/tyre/ar-1/). Even if you can’t get them try the Nangkang NS2R in the same size. Two options in tread wear 120 (Track); 180 (Street). I was using the 180 as a road tire up until recently and found them to be very good, at least compared with the equivalent thing in a Dunlop (which was really good at the start but tappered off in performance over the tire life, whereas the NS2R was good most of its life and fell away quickly as it got to the wear indicator. Although you get no idea of how driven and how far, on the road I get a year out of a 225/50/17 in a 1400kg car driving a lot of steep back roads. I’m never driving on old rubber). Unfortunately the last time around for tires my cash flow was not so good. Despite being a harder tire I think they are only going to last a year.

Hmmm. Imma look into them. I tried 175 50 13 on some 4.5J rims and weirdly they rubbed at the back…maybe…weird…
Imma pree the N2SR as the minimum threadwear for my class is 140.
Thanks guys

NS2R comes in 175/50R13 72V (180). 4.5" is pretty narrow. I thought my +38 5.5" 13s were a bit small. On a 2dr there was only a small about of guard work needed to make them fit. Anyway, I thinkk you’d find the NS2R to be a huge step up.

Will take a look into trying to locate them at a decent price

On leaving the drag meet my air fuel ratios seem off. They were perfect heading in and started to read 12.0. Read my plugs and cylinder 2 and 3 were just about going white.
P_20170724_121849
Fuel pressure was ok. Decided to link my tuner; somehow my TPS giving issues so we disabled that and worked str8 with the MAP sensor.
First pull dyno read 128hp on 20psi without changing anything. Found that strange as the car was performing like it had the 140. Tried tuning with straight methonal in the meth injection, power kept falling so disconnected thr pump and tuned without it (again strange)
Tuner did his thing and we got 13+.
Told him my goal was to sort out the ratios, not the power so, we continued and ended on the 22psi.
I decided to go through the fuel system. Changed the fuel pump to a nissan pump I had and fuel filter. Ratios got worse. I’m suspecting the injectors…soooo I hooked up back my meth and ratios are better. Hoping for the best until after the upcoming track

Hope it all hold out till you get it sorted. is the pump flow handling the fuel needed. Thats what was happening to mine The pressure was good but the flow was really crap. I have a 340L kemso to put in to help mine. A brand new stock one did nothing the only thing I could do was increase the fpr to compensate but in the end i think that helped with the knock I know have.

That’s what i’m thinking is the issue. My next option is a walbro and I don’t like them
sigh
I have a practice session tomorrow. If the ratios seem off I won’t pressure it. Just get a high flow pump in time for the meet.
For sure if the car would give me pocket a lil breather imma get a higher flowing pump and injectors.
I just forked up a pretty penny ordering the clutch kit for the L700 gearbox

Did some searching on the tires and no luck my side of the world
The tire is mainly in england apparently :disappointed_relieved:.

On a happier note I had a good track day practice session today. I installed some wheel spacers around the back so now I’m able to attack the corners more aggressively; ofcourse the difficulty of capitalizing on this is the lack of traction. The car is pulling out of the corners better but even trying to manage the throttle and only 15psi of boost is proving a challenge.
Will keep y’all posted on any changes leading up to race day; which is August 7th

the class is a 1min 45sec bracket class. Here are my lap times in a 3lap run; my laps are.under the name “Denny”
The other laps were run by a FD2R (Rush), FT86(Omar) and RX8 (Lee)
there were two other FD2’S that went all out and did 1:38 lap times

Check with these guys

They sell Nankang NS1 (but avoid those they are rubbish) and Yoko Advan 048. Just ask about what could be gotten in your size for what you want. Might be worth a try. Or see demontweeks about shipping some to you

$631us for four NS2R shipped to Jamacia

Thanks much man; will check out how best I can get em here.
I usually ship to the US so that my people can handle customs through their containers

OMG ! This is the life of the race 13" wheel :disappointed_relieved::confounded:

demontweeks is half the price . This looks promising. Thanks ROB :facepunch:

That was just a quick search. There will be quite a few UK places doing the NS2R. You might find them a little cheaper again through a BMC Mini specialist. From what you said about your race class I think the Advan will not be permitted, whereas that Nangkang is 180compound. Shipping might be less to the US, my check was through to Jamacia.

Hail all; well August 7 has come and gone. Here’s how my race weekend went…
Decided to head to the track early, get some more practice in and settle in ourselves. On doing my 3rd lap in my practice run the car jus went neutral. Got towed into the pits. Thankfully a bay was empty so we got pulling; the feeling of the gearbox was all too familiar. Thankfully my significant other drove her car; after pulling out the engine and gearbox. I left my mechanic to do the final pulling. Took the long drive back home around 6pm for my l700 gearbox and all parts associated with it. During the drive home I got a photo of the damaged counter shaft…SWEEET; made a call and got one from a guy I knew damaged his diff a month ago. Packed up spare parts and left home near 10pm; long drive back to the hotel.
Early Sunday morning we were on it full tilt; dropped in the counter shaft and the main shaft wouldn’t stay properly seated. Ive been through this before and still don’t know why some of the counter shafts don’t work.

So we went on to installing the L700 gearbox; thankfully I bit the bullet and bought the clutch kit needed earlier that month and it came the Friday before I left for the race meet. Happened to leave the bracket for the slave cylinder. Fabricator told me don’t worry; he made it before he’ll make another even better and so he did.
So thankfully that worked out. L700 gearbox was in with a fresh clutch kit. Did some laps to see how much I could pressure the new disc since I wasn’t gonna get to break it in.

RACE DAY
Checked through the car and went out for qualifying laps; after couple laps the car just didn’t feel right; wideband read 13.2 while on boost; I was like WTF!, looked at my temps and other readings; voltage read 11; ok…so I have an alternator issue; got the car in checked around no charge from the alternator. Noticed the two wires that plug to the rectifier (I think that’s what its called) were broken; fixed that. Still no charge. A member of the small car group didn’t live to far and he was coming to the meet; so we got tools took off his alternator, which happened to have a noisy bearing. Installed it and we were good again.
Called to the grid I left the car idling to warm up; I heard the engine revs increase; checked the volts; no charge; WTF… did I jus kill an alternator I borrowed? Am I gonna miss my first race?
To the pits called my electrician who just reached and he did he checks and band aided the issue by running a 12v current str8 to the alternator. Mercy was shown by the stewards and I was allowed to race from the back.
After race 1 we did some further checks and found out the issue was a fuse in the stock box; 15amp Engine 2 fuse.
Close call…Good race day; vids coming up in a sec

The L700 ratios made a world of difference, I was better able to manage the wheelspin with it. Being a fresh clutch I decided to run 13psi only. I did hit the 20psi in race 2 to try and keep off the FD2R’s but as you’ll see it didn’t work out for me the second time I did it lol
Race 1

I was rather sloppy in race 2. Will practice more to do better for the meet in October
