Evilhighway's Move (daily)

Progress/destruction pics from yesterday.

this is the unmovable object :frowning:

this is with multi layer steel gasket for ejde just a small mod and some overhang and the work great.

this is where you need to grind or file the head gasket back to fit around this bit.

my cam seal I had was wrong so now off to get a new one. then build my cog puller.

I got a new seal. built a cog puller the it failed so back to bashing crap out of it with wedging stuff in there to move it. I didnt get the damn thing off until about 3pm :frowning:. The reason it wasnt coming off was the key had a bur on it and it was keeping it from moving forward. Brute force and ignorance got it out in the end I had to clean up all the burs I made on the cog and then do the seal and its all back together by this time all I could do was sit the head on the block and call it a day. From here it should only be another day to get the rest back together. Although I found a couple of other small jobs to do with it also.

It’s never straight forward is it. Glad you got it sorted

yeh just the rest to go. I am so happy that bit is over though I had vision’s of having to use my spare block or steal the mira’s engine. Thank god i didnt have to

well things didnt go to plan like I was hoping after doing all this work it seems the crank seal housing got damaged :frowning: and when i got it all back together it spilled it oil all over the place after 5 mins of running. So after feeling disappointment, I had a day off yesterday and today I took the timing gear off and saw the damage. I had a couple of options

  1. was to take the engine out see if I can fix it.
  2. take the engine out and replace it with my other ed20 I have.
  3. take the engine out and replace it with the franken engine (with the ejde pistons) out of the mira and use that with boost.

So the common denominator as you see is take the engine out.
So

Sorry we aren’t closer, you could have taken my ED. I would have happily taken the stuffed motor.

Thanks Dale. The stuffed motor will be donor parts etc or fixed anyway. I have made a decision during the hours of last night that I will be putting the mira engine in and making the move a manual.

Got a bit done today but not going falt out with it. I got the engine out of the mira at the end of the day. B4 that I cleaned (roughly) the move engine bay and got some rust converter on a couple of bits and some subframe black to make it last and look a bit better.
I took off the sirion hubs off the mira with the other l stuff for 4x100 also (only the front). I have made a few discoveries with everything as I go. I will need a bigger hole in the floor for the manual so a bit of cutting will need to be done. I think I may bite the bullet and buy a move manual pedal box as it would be 100 time easier than what I was looking at doing. but see how I go first. The other thing is I have no idea how I am going to wire this thing in. With zero exerience in doing so It may be a lot of research or who know’s I may end up convincing my mrs in letting me get a microsquirt or something .

Awesome work Dr Evil, a Microsquirt will be an excellent bang for buck ECU (some may disagree). One 36-1 tooth wheel is all that is needed to getting fuel and ignition control however two toothed wheels will be bring better refining of the tuning. There are some other sensors that are needed, I strongly recommend a wide band o2 sensor and controller. I have a mate who can get them for a good price with everything you need to get it running.
Also consider buying the Autotune software from the US, it gives you everything to tune it yourself if you have a laptop. The software will run on most operating systems - for memory it will work with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux (and related versions like Ubuntu and Kubunto).

If you are interested I have two spare Autronic SMC ecus to choose from. Both have the autotune chip. Choice of harnesses and I have a bare harness plug with unused pins if you wanted to patch into the factory harness. There is only one air sensor and the are propitiatory. New sensor is about $80. You’d use all your other sensors. Like the M/squirt there is a huge benefit from going to a wideband sensor. Also have a M &W CDI to suit. In my opinion the Autronic is a superior product to the Microsquirt. The Microsquirt though will have a better support community. You can “try before you buy” if you’d like to play with the SMC. Can’t quite give it away but you could have it for a fraction of the price I paid for it.

Thank mr gormsby I definitely wouldn’t want it given too me. I would never except that. I will get the engine in the car first and gotten everything hooked up (including the 4x100). I will make a decision once I have gotten there as I know my brain very well and if I start thinking of everything in one go I will melt down and do nothing. lol

Didnt get alot done today at all I just sort of stuffed around did a little investigating and went to get some gearbox oil as I had $10 credit at supercrap and they had 25% off so managed to get some g/box oil and other bits and bobs for just over $20.
I did remember that durrr I have a ef-jl turbo ecu that I was going to put in the mira so that I suppose solves part of the ecu thing I was worried about.
I worked out that all lights/ instrument cluster/ heater and radio etc work without an ecu plugged in so I really just need to figure out getting power to the ecu and ground, starter and alternator and the fuel pump from what I can gather and the rest the ecu should be able to run and I believe the stock boost is about 14psi from memory. I started having a look at both ecu’s and car wiring and I think I will eventually be able to work it out. Well I’m being optimistic anyway. Other than that I fixed my jackshaft as I accidently pulled on it a little to much and pulled it apart. I also spilled oil and gearbox oil everywhere in the shed. I guess having sandbags from the recent flood threat came in handy for the oils
I think i should get the hubs off the move tomorrow and plut the engine in with the gearbox cables attached so i can work out the placement for the gear shifter as i dont want to go over the cable length but gonna try to make it a little further back than standard.

It is possible to lengthen the cables. Let me know if you need help with that.

I will definately let you know but I think. My placement I am going with makes it just.

did some stuff again today not as much as I would have liked due to a stuck rounded bolt on the swaybar. I ended up having to cut the mount (i had spares) to get the pressure off it. Before that I tried heating, candle wax, tool box in a can (wd40 etc), drilling the centre out nothing would budge the bloody thing, but finally got there. I stuffed around with the shifter cables also and got them in pulled the 4x110 move hubs off. Took the loom out for now and stuffed around with alternator’s for a while.
Eventually I got the engine in so I can start prepping the other stuff too.

Do you have 4 x 100 13"s? I have those five spoke ones if you like.

Excellent work @evilhighway, im very interested to see what a Frankenstein engine goes like when its running a turbo ECU!!

I bet its gonna get up and move :stuck_out_tongue:

I have 4x100 14’s with brand new tyres on them Ive had sitting for about a year so I should probably get some use out of them but I think in future I will go back to a 13 for better tyres if i can find some.
